Presidential Palace of Taiwan

The Presidential Building of Taiwan is located in the Zhongzheng Districk of Taipei City and formerly housed the Office of the Govern-Gereral of Taiwan during the period of Japanese colonial rule. In 1906 and 1907, an architechtiral design contest was held, and by 1910, the deign of Uheiji Nagano was selected. Contruction began in June of 1912 and the building was completed in March of 1919 at a cost of 2.8 millon Japanese Yen.

During World War II, the building suffered sever damage from heavy bombing by the U.S. air force . It was not repaired until 1947, when the Taiwan Provincial Governemnt initiated a restoration plan funded through private donations. The restoration involved approximately 81,000 workers and was completed at the end of 1948, looking slightly different from the original structure.
